We will be offering free tastings of one cuvee each from Hofgut Falkenstein on 15th, 22nd, and 29th June (Thursday) afternoons at our Central Tasting Studio. Takaki Okada started Folium Vineyard as a boutique and organically farmed estate with 8ha of vineyards located in the Brancott Valley in the Marlborough Region on New Zealand’s South Island. The wines crafted here are distinctively European in style, with vintage variation, and has a subtlety that complements rather than overpowers food. They have a great following in Japan and other parts of Asia, and the Folium Vineyard Pinot Noir Reserve 2015 was featured as a great match for the much loved Peking Duck dish in the immensely popular Japanese manga series about wine, The Drops of God (神之水滴).

Only 600 bottles produced each year from ungrafted old vines that date back to 1870, today’s ex-Domaine offer is of the rare 2018 and 2019 vintages of the Creutz Sylvaner cuvee from the historic Sylvaner producer Weingut Zehnthof Luckert. The wine is complex, full-bodied, saline, and with elegant texture. It’s a match against great Burgundies in blind tasting, and as with all the other Luckert Sylanvers, it is made to age and should ideally be left to rest in the cellar or decanted in advance before serving now.
