Thorne & Daughters, established in 2013 by John and Tasha Thorne-Seccombe, holds a prominent position in South Africa's 'New Wave' wine movement. They carefully select grapes from growers across the Western Cape. Their standout offering, 'Rocking Horse,' is a blend of Roussanne, Semillon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Clairette. The 2020 vintage, which followed a five-year drought, brought much-needed rainfall. As a result, the wines from this season possess a balanced acidity and a graceful liveliness.

Tasting notes
The 2020 Rocking Horse is a blend of 35% Sémillon, 28% Roussanne, 16% Chardonnay, 15% Chenin Blanc and 6% Clairette Blanche, whole-bunch-pressed and matured in used oak. It has a well-defined, flor-like bouquet offering brioche, grilled walnut, bales of straw and smoke. The fabulous palate presents a sensual honeyed texture effortlessly counterbalanced by acidity. Very harmonious, revealing dried honey, walnut and ginger on the finish. This is a masterclass in winemaking and it will age brilliantly in bottle... if you can resist pulling that cork.

Since 1796, the Pasquero-Elia family has dedicated themselves to these vineyards, bottling Barbaresco wines. Three generations now work organically together, crafting Nebbiolo wines that harmonize power and grace. Guided by the ancient rule of "Sorì," signifying the spot where winter sunrays melt snow, they select the finest Nebbiolo plots. Serraboella, the renowned cru in Southern Neive, is a long west-facing hill that gradually steepens as it bends towards the south. On this steepest and warmest side of slope, their Barbaresco showcases a unique expression where power and volume intertwine with an elegant texture.

Tasting notes
The 2011 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin Vigne Vecchie is just as stunning as it has always been. A wine of extraordinary purity, the 2011 is laced with rose petals, spices, mint, sweet red berries. The balance of fruit, acidity and tannin is simply magnificent. At the same time, the power and breadth of Serraboella comes through in spades.
