Low Production Argentine Wine From The World’s Best Vineyard: Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita 2016 | RP100
With improving quality and increasing recognition from critics and wine lovers alike, we are always on the look out for world class Argentine wines to bring to our clients. We are therefore delighted to have sourced a parcel of the Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita 2016, one of only three wines from South America to be awarded 100 points by the Wine Advocate, and from an estate with vineyards topping World’s Best Vineyards* list for two years in a row.
The Zuccardi wine story started when Alberto Zuccardi, grandfather of current proprietor Sebastián, first planted grapevines in Maipu in 1963 to demonstrate the effectiveness of a cement-pipe irrigation system he set up. They have been at the forefront of promoting Argentine wines since, being one of the first few producers to export wines to the UK in 1991, and the family’s continued quest for quality has led to the establishment of a research and development team in 2009, coinciding with the family’s expansion to Uco Valley. It was at Uco Valley that the quality of Zuccardi’s wines started to improve significantly. The quality of high-altitude grapes combined with research and experiments in soil and vineyard management produced terroir driven wines with energy, balance, finesse, and consistency.
The wines are made with as little intervention as possible, and are vinified in epoxy-free concrete vessels in tapered and amphora shapes. Extensive use of concrete and used foudres are used to age the wines. One of the Finca (Cru) wines produced by Zuccardi, the Finca Piedra Infinita 2016 is made with 100% Malbec, and in the words of Sebastián Zuccardi, “Finca Piedra Infinita 2016 is a very special wine, since it combines the history of the place, of a producer and of a vintage in particular.”
With only 6,400 bottles produced, we are very pleased to be able to offer a small parcel of this wine in both loose bottles and OWC format.

I was blown away by the 2016 Finca Piedra Infinita, a wine I have been anticipating because I’ve seen the progression of the wine over the last few years. They use almost 40 different components to make this wine from small plots within the vineyard, especially the soils they call "supercalcáreo" (super limestone). The other type of soil they use is what they call "gravas calcáreas" (limestone gravels), and they don’t use any of the grapes from the deeper soils that go into the Q range. The wine has reached a stratospheric level of precision, symmetry and elegance in 2016 that is really captivating. Everything seems to be in its place; there is great harmony, the aromatics are clean and pure and the texture is like liquid chalk. There is power and elegance, energy and finesse. This is a really outstanding wine that summarizes the hard work at Zuccardi in the last few years. Bravo! 6,400 bottles were filled in February 2017.
