1/ Fulcro A Pedreira 2020 - Bt | RP93

A Pedreira is Fulcro's flagship Albariño wine from Val do Salnés of Spain. Despite being grown near the Atlantic, it's not a simple, salty wine, but rather a powerful, mineral-driven delight with vibrant citrus flavors and creamy texture.

Tasting notes
The 2020 A Pedreira comes from different small vineyards and is the basic wine here. There is a change in this vintage: they increased the percentage of wine that matured in barrel, trying to age most of the wine for a few months, rotating between stainless steel and barrel, as they want the polished texture and acidity of the wine oxygenated in barrel. The wine has 13% alcohol, didn't go through malolactic and has kept very good freshness and balance. It's clean and tasty, pure and focused. Very good. Some 20,000 bottles produced.

2/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 1995 - Bt | NM91

Chateau Bel-Air Marquis d'Aligre is a prime example of traditional Bordeaux. Winemaker Jean-Pierre crafts exquisitely aromatic, elegant, and exceptionally long-lived wines. They showcase the essence of the Left Bank terroir with vibrant fruit flavors and complex tertiary characteristics.

Tasting notes
The 1995 Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre has an exquisite, gentle, almost Burgundy-like bouquet with wonderful purity and delineation. This is a mixture of red and black fruit, developing pressed violet aromas that direct you back to Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured entry, a fine line of acidity, black fruit mixed with iodine and sea salt that leads to a linear, Pauillac-like finish. This is a very fine Margaux that is ageing gracefully at 23-years of age. Tasted at the Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre dinner.

3/ Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Spatburgunder 3 Star Fass no.1 2014 - Bt | RP97

Markus Molitor produces remarkable red wines alongside their renowned Riesling. This full-bodied, aromatic, dry red from Mosel is made exclusively from Spätburgunder grapes (Pinot Noir). It displays a deep ruby color and aromas of berries and plum. Along with its velvety texture, it pairs perfectly with grilled meat.

Tasting notes
The 2014 Pinot Noir Graacher Himmelreich *** opens with a deep, concentrated, very aromatic yet fine and superbly balanced bouquet of perfectly ripe, sweet forest berries and dark cherries intermixed with noble toast, very fine crunchy/flinty slate and wild herbal notes including coriander and potted ginger. There is a tiny touch of potted plums and fat nougat here as well, so the three-starred Himmelreich is perhaps the least reductive of Molitor's outstanding 2014 Pinot Noir series. (Molitor says the Graacher had a high pH of 0.1 or 0.15 compared the the Trarbacher.) However, this is so generous and elegant on the nose, where everything is just as it should be—a beauty filled in bottles. Full-bodied, refined and voluptuous on the palate, with perfectly ripe fruit and a tender, highly finessed and silky character, this is a dense, intense and incredibly juicy Pinot Noir with great intensity, very tine tannins and a seductive texture. The finish is long, concentrated, intensely aromatic and endlessly juicy, with hints of ripe blackberries, but at the same time, it is still pure, fresh and fine, with exciting tension thanks to the vibrating mineral structure and expression. Although I love the more transparent, silky/filigreed and delicate style of the Trarbacher Schlossberg at least as much, the Himmelreich delivers more flesh and fruit to the palate. The extraordinary number of 2,400 bottles (more than ever before) were filled in August 2017. I tasted the wine three times in March 2018, and I am still in love.

4/ Barale Fratelli Castellero Barolo DOCG 2016 - Bt | AG94/WE96

Barale Fratelli, a family-owned winery tracing back to 1870, when Barolo wine had just appeared on the scene in the Langhe. Crafted from ancient Nebbiolo clones Michet and Rosè (and Lampia), it harmonizes power and finesse. Aged in Slovenian oak casks for 3 years, it reveals concentrated plum flavors and captivating aromatics. Today Sergio Barale and daughters Eleonora and Gloria passionately preserve Barale Fratelli's rich heritage.

Tasting notes
The 2016 Barolo Castellero captures all the beguiling nuance of this Monforte d’Alba site. Dried flowers, mint, pine, licorice, spice and sweet red cherry fill out the layers effortlessly. The 2016 is beautifully expressive and resonant, yet it remains light on its feet. There is so much to look forward to.

New leather, camphor, tobacco and fragrant purple flower are just some of the aromas you’ll find on this fragrant, focused red. The delicious palate features juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice and truffle while taut polished tannins provide seamless support. Fresh acidity keeps it youthful and balanced. It’s already showing beautifully but will also offer years of pleasure.
