New Arrivals: Wines for Your Holiday Table

As holiday shopping heats up, we have a selection of newly arrived bottles. While the list is limited, each wine is exceptional for celebrations across various budgets. We hope you find something you love below.😉

First up is the Champagne Lassaigne La Colline Inspirée Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs NV from Montgueux, the southern part of Champagne. This expressive cuvée offers freshness with notes of white fruit and citrus, enhanced by brioche aromas, a rich texture, and a mineral finish.

For whites, we have the Mount Mary Triolet White Blend 2004 from Yarra Valley. This blend of 70% Sauvignon, 25% Semillon, and 5% Muscadelle, reminiscent whites of Graves of Bordeaux, is delicate, floral, and features juicy citrus and melon flavors leading to a mineral finish. If you prefer Burgundian whites, we feature Coche-Dury Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021, with mingled notes of flowers, apples, and pears, and a bright palate with chamomile hints. The mature Domaine Henri Boillot Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2005, nearly 20 years old, is elegant and clean, with hazelnut, honey, and wax aromas, plus a concentrated palate.

For reds, the Cullen Diana Madeline, Margaret River 2001, is a top vintage, showcasing a polished and harmonious expression with enticing aromas of ripe blackcurrant, cedar, and vanilla, along with fine-grained tannins. The Domaine Dujac Morey St Denis 2005 presents black cherry and smokiness on the nose, with a deep palate and silky texture. Consider the Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes Vieilles Vignes Premier Cru 2020, which features plums, peonies, and orange rind, offering a velvety body and a long, saline finish, described as “the finest rendition of this site” by critic William Kelley.

For Grand Cru options, we have Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru 2009, with a complex bouquet of red plums, cherries, and fresh thyme, plus an intensely flavored palate. Alternatively, the Domaine Arnoux Lachaux Echezeaux Les Rouges Grand Cru 2019 bursts with wild berries, plums, and spices, providing a deep, layered experience.

1/ Champagne Lassaigne La Colline Inspiree Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs NV - Bt | RP94
(750ml, 3 bottle, HK$900/bt)

A blend of the 2013 and 2012 vintages that was disgorged in March, the NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs La Colline Inspiré opens in the glass with aromas of almond paste, citrus oil, crisp green apple and pastry cream, gently framed by its élevage in barrel. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, with an immensely incisive spine of ripe but bracing acidity, a fine mousse and a long, electric and searingly saline finish. This bottling is produced from several parcels in Montgueux, and all the vins clairs are now fermented and matured in barrel.

2/ Mount Mary Triolet White Blend, Yarra Valley 2004 - Bt | Jamie Goode 90
(750ml, 3 bottle, HK$750/bt)

A blend of 70% Sauvignon, 25% Semillon and 5% Muscadelle. Both Mount Mary whites are made with plenty of solids left in the juice, pressed to about 700 litres/ton, racked with half solids in the tank for a couple of days fermentation when they go into barrel. This has quite an assertive grassy nose: not terribly perfumed, but rather quite savoury. Nice weight of fruit on the palate, with good presence. It’s fruity with a hint of phenolic structure.

3/ Coche-Dury Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021 - Bt | JR16.5
(750ml, 3 bottle, HK$2950/bt)

Not aggressively struck match. In fact – perhaps because of the cool, wet vintage – a tad light and dry on the palate, though the nose promises more development, even richness. Comparing it with Kumeu River, Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2023, it has a bit more going on on the palate, and better length, but it didn't improve overnight so I'm not sure about its likely development.

4/ Domaine Henri Boillot Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2005 - Bt | VNS93+
(750ml, 5 bottle, HK$6800/bt)

Subdued aromas of apple, pineapple and wet stone. Dense, broad and dry, showing lovely clarity of crystallized fruits and crushed stone but not yet displaying its full personality. Best today on the palate-staining nish, but this grand cru is certain to require at least five or six years of bottle aging to reach its full potential.

5/ Cullen Diana Madeline, Margaret River 2001 - Bt | JR17
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$1000/bt)

Still very deep crimson. Nuanced, gentle nose with just masses of tertiary aroma. Quite a seam of ripe, slightly angular fruit – not as much fun on the palate as on the nose. The acidity seems a little prominent. I feel the 2009 will develop into something more complete and subtle than this.

6/ Domaine Dujac Morey St Denis 2005 (Ex Domaine 2023) - Bt | JM93
(750ml, 3 bottle, HK$2000/bt)

I am always a little bit apprehensive opening up a 2005 red Burgundy so early in its potential life, though maybe we can just begin to look at some village wines. I am very fond of Morey-Saint-Denis anyway, but Dujac’s village version always plays well above its station. The bouquet is wonderfully welcoming, the palate says OK, but don’t be in such a hurry. The whole bunch vinification offers a spicy touch, but in a year like 2005 it only offers a minor key alongside the concentration of delicious dark fruit, which made a great match with a dish of slow cooked pork ribs assisted by a little rosemary, thyme and (rather more) garlic.

7/ Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes Vieilles Vignes Premier Cru 2020 - Bt | JM92-95
(750ml, 6 bottle, HK$2000/bt)

Deeper crimson purple with restrained power to the nose. A little darker in fruit profile, more raspberry than cherry, smoky peppery stems just lightly present, complex and delicious. Another great wine from Jean-Marie Fourrier.

8/ Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru 2009 (Ex Domaine 2022) - Bt | AG94
(750ml, 3 bottle, HK$8000/bt)

The 2009 Echézeaux is another inward wine. With time in the glass, some of the layers of fruit begin to esh out, showing the depth I sensed when I tasted the wine from barrel. There is plenty of elegance and nesse, although today the 2010 appears to be more promising by a touch.

9/ Domaine Arnoux Lachaux Echezeaux Les Rouges Grand Cru 2019 - Bt | RP96
(750ml, 3 bottle, HK$18000/bt)

The 2019 Echezeaux Grand Cru Les Rouges is brilliant, bursting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, plums, exotic spices, orange rind and woodsmoke. Full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's deep and layered, with striking mid-palate plenitude and a long, expansive finish. Showing more structure and tension than I perceived in barrel, it will require a bit of patience.
