Tasting note
The 2018 Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Cailloux—which corresponds to Bouland's Corcelette foudre #4 that I reviewed in the 2017 vintage—derives from stony soils, a fact that is now indicated on the label. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark cherries, wild berries, baking chocolate, rich soil and smoke, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a more reserved profile than the old-vine Corcelette from sandy soils, underpinned by juicy acids and an abundance of fine, powdery tannin. This will demand as much patience as the Delys Vieilles Vignes this year.
Score: 95
