Mature OWC Sassicaia

An original wooden case and cheapest in the Hong Kong market.

Sassicaia 2004

HK$19,800 per 12x75cl OWC

The 2004 Sassicaia is a lovely, understated effort. Medium in body, it presents nuanced layers of sweet dark fruit, licorice, menthol and toasted oak that gradually open onto a finely-knit frame of notable length. Today it appears to be quite reticent and still holding back much of its potential. Both bottles I sampled showed less vibrancy and freshness in both color and flavors than the other top 2004s I tasted alongside it, suggesting that the wine is still suffering from bottle shock.

Vietti 2016 Barolo – including two 100pts wines

A couple of great wines from Vietti in the superb Barolo 2016 vintage. We also have the good value Barolo Castiglione and other Vietti crus in stock.

Vietti Barolo Ravera 2016

HK$2,100 per 75cl

The 2016 Barolo Ravera is bursting with all of the tension that is the most singular characteristic of this site. Freshly cut flowers, white pepper and mint lend energy to a wine that is very shy and tightly wound today. Then again, it is Ravera. Macerated dark cherry, lavender, mint, crushed rocks and sage race out of the glass in a potent, stunning Barolo endowed with magnificent purity and translucency. The 2016 is quite simply a stunning, breathtaking wine. Don't miss it.

Vietti Barolo Rocche Di Castiglione 2016

HK$2,000 per 75cl or HK$12,000 per 6x75cl OWC

The Vietti 2016 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a complete wine, offering exact measures of purity, intensity, freshness and structure. This is the 360-degree Barolo from Vietti, with fruit sourced closest to home in Castiglione Falletto. Rocche di Castiglione sees more shade hours, and that becomes an important factor in the hottest vintages and the longest growing seasons. It creates diurnal shifts that positively impact the purity and brilliant focus of the fruit. Of all the comuni of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto produced exceptional results across the board in this classic vintage. Dark fruit, pressed lilac, blood orange, powdered licorice, balsam herb, spice, iron ore and aniseed fit together perfectly like pieces in a puzzle. Once completed, that puzzle offers a dazzling panoramic portrait of this special Barolo territory. A mere 3,394 bottles and 300 magnums were produced.

High Altitude Low Production Argentine Wine From The World’s Best Vineyard

Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita 2016

HK$1,200 per 75cl or HK$3,600 per 3x75cl OWC

I was blown away by the 2016 Finca Piedra Infinita, a wine I have been anticipating because I’ve seen the progression of the wine over the last few years. They use almost 40 different components to make this wine from small plots within the vineyard, especially the soils they call "supercalcáreo" (super limestone). The other type of soil they use is what they call "gravas calcáreas" (limestone gravels), and they don’t use any of the grapes from the deeper soils that go into the Q range. The wine has reached a stratospheric level of precision, symmetry and elegance in 2016 that is really captivating. Everything seems to be in its place; there is great harmony, the aromatics are clean and pure and the texture is like liquid chalk. There is power and elegance, energy and finesse. This is a really outstanding wine that summarizes the hard work at Zuccardi in the last few years. Bravo! 6,400 bottles were filled in February 2017.

A top class burgundy from a top producer.

Triumphed in the annual Burgfest blind tasting of Burgundies.

A.F. Gros Richebourg 2015

HK$8,000 per 75cl

The 2015 Richebourg Grand Cru has a drop-dead gorgeous bouquet: so pure, so refined, so delineated! The scents are not powerful or ostentatious, but they unfold with each swirl of the glass, revealing astonishing mineralité. The palate is extraordinarily well defined. There is a patina of new oak to be subsumed, but it is still extremely detailed. A surprising seam of white pepper and spice becomes more conspicuous toward the long finish. Unquestionably a wine that stops you in your tracks. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
