Sweet Adventures Await!

Celebrate life’s sweeter moments with our exclusive collection of remarkable sweet wines. We’re thrilled to present a special selection that highlights some exquisite offerings.

First up is the Chateau Sisqueille Rivesaltes Vin Doux Naturel 1874. This rare pre-phylloxera wine, bottled by Philippe Gayral in January 2013 from a single Burgundy barrel, features an enticing bouquet of Japanese plum and sloe, along with rich flavors of red plum, white pepper, and aniseed. As a Vin Doux Naturel (VDN), it ages beautifully, and with only around 600 bottles available, it’s perfect for special occasions.

Next, we have two outstanding ports from legendary producers: Dow’s and Croft, crafted from exceptional vintages sourced from the finest vineyards. Dow’s Vintage Port 2016 delights with captivating aromas of blueberries and blackberries, complemented by hints of smoke and leather. Its full-bodied palate features fine tannins and a complex finish, skillfully balancing subtle sweetness with dark berries and a touch of blood orange. Meanwhile, Croft Vintage Port 2011 boasts a deep purple-black color and a complex nose rich in fruity and floral notes. Its luscious berry flavors are supported by a velvety texture and perfectly integrated tannins.

Introducing the Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Lange Goldkapsel #26 1999, a stunning sweet Riesling from Mosel. This 25-year-old wine features enticing aromas of pineapple, apricot, and mango, complemented by a honeyed texture. The palate is vibrantly balanced with ripe fruit and sweet citrus, accented by lively acidity and a remarkably long finish, making it a must-have for any collection.

From our agency producers, we have some delightful offerings you won't want to miss. Tawse Barrel Aged Chardonnay Ice Wine, Niagara Peninsula VQA 2013 from Canada is a rare gem, as Tawse has discontinued this dessert wine. Aged for 12 months in new oak barrels, it features enticing aromas of vanilla and honey, with flavors of caramel and a surprising tart finish.

From Folium, a rare dry farm winery in Marlborough, we present two delightful surprises that nature brings: the Folium Vineyard Chardonnay Late Harvest 2020 and the Folium Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest 2022, both resulting from unexpected botrytis occurrences. The Chardonnay features baked apples, caramel, and toasted almonds, with a luscious sweetness and smooth finish. In contrast, the Sauvignon Blanc offers aromas of honeydew melon and apricot, balanced by refreshing acidity and tropical fruit flavors.

Finally, we present three exquisite Rieslings from Hofgut Falkenstein. The “Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spatlese (Forster) 2021”, from 60-year-old vines in the renowned Gross Schock sector, boasts a rich, fruity character with high residual sugar, featuring creamy notes of gooseberry and grapefruit balanced by zesty acidity. The “Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spatlese (Klaus) 2022” also uses 60-year-old vines but offers a juicier, more layered profile with complex herbal aromas. The “Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese Feinherb (Meyer Nepal) 2022”, from 1950s vines, presents an off-dry, fresh, and precise profile.

1/ Chateau Sisqueille Rivesaltes Vin Doux Naturel 1874 - Half Bt | NM97
HK$5000 ▷ HK$4600

The 1874 Rivesaltes from Château Sesqueille comes from a single barrel bottled by Philippe Gayral in January 2013 and it was, in fact, the debut vintage from Sesqueille. It is a remarkable slice of history. The bouquet belies its age with wonderful Japanese plum and scents of sloe that gradually unfold in the glass and enrapture the senses. The palate is complex and sensual with red plum at its core, flanked by white pepper, fennel and aniseed aromas that are all exquisitely defined. The finish feels elegant and pure. No wonder Gayral felt compelled to bottle this. It is now quite difficult to find but bottles might crop up from time to time. Tasted with Philippe Gayral.

2/ Dows Vintage Port 2016 - 6 Bt Case | NM98
HK$3525 ▷ HK$3250
(OWC6)

The 2016 Dow’s Vintage Port is based around the Vinha dos Ecos vineyard behind Bomfim, populated predominantly by mature Touriga Franca vines that were cropped at just 0.68kg per vine. It has a quite astonishing bouquet with layer upon layer of intense black cherry and cassis fruit, touches of clove, leather and a hint of over-ripe Satsuma. This is a mercurial bouquet that keeps changing in the glass, revealing smoky/burning ember scents with time. The palate is quite magnificent – perfectly balanced with a killer thread of acidity slicing through such pure intense black fruit that there is no heaviness at all. There is a sense of thrust on the finish as it fans out with almost careless abandon, a Vintage Port so self-assured that you can only sit back in amazement. Simply one of the best Dow’s ever made.

3/ Croft Vintage Port 2011 - 6 Bt Case | NM92-95
HK$3740 ▷ HK$3450
(OWC6)

The 2011 Croft is initially taciturn on the nose, even after allowing it 20 minutes in my glass. A light swirling immediately awakens the aromatics to offer blackberry, Seville orange marmalade, blueberries and dried fig – complex and quite compelling. There is real mineralite within this bouquet that, returning after 30 minutes, offers alluring ocean spray scents rolling in off the ocean. The palate is medium-bodied with a velvety-smooth opening that belies the fine, structured tannins underneath. It clams up a little towards the finish, shuts the lid tight and consequently there is the sensation of less persistency here compared to the Taylor’s or Fonseca. But Croft has a knack of filling out with bottle age and becomes both gentle and generous with the passing years. Tasted May 2013.

8/ Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spatlese (Forster) 2021 - Bt | MFW94+
HK$330 ▷ HK$300

The 2021er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese Förster (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) was made from clean fruit harvested early at 87° Oechsle from vines planted in the 1960s in the prime Gross Schock sector of the vineyard and was fermented down to fully fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (55 g/l). It offers a beautiful nose of creamy gooseberry, grapefruit, quince, bitter lemon, chalky minerals, and smoke. The wine is superbly zesty yet also subtly creamy on the palate. The finish has the vibrancy of an Eiswein with the fruitiness of a great Spätlese. The acidity strikes through right into the finish and proves incredibly animating. We would wait a few years to let the wine develop more presence. Then, it could prove even better than expected: It is that impressive!

9/ Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spatlese (Klaus) 2022 - Bt | MFW94
HK$345 ▷ HK$315

The 2022er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese Klaus (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from fruit harvested on 60-year-old vines in the prime Gross Schock sector of the vineyard and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar. Still very reductive at first and herbal at first, this needs a few minutes in the glass to reveal a superbly attractive and fresh nose of minty herbs, aniseed, elderflower, Conference pear, and mustard seeds. The wine is superbly juicy and mouth-coating on the layered and spicy palate. The finish is layered and finely aromatic. This is a beautiful Spätlese. 2032-2047

10/ Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spatlese Feinherb (Meyer Nepal) 2022 - Bt | MFW95
HK$280 ▷ HK$255

The 2022er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese Feinherb Meyer Nepal (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from vines planted in the 1950s in the upper part of the vineyard and was fermented to off-dry levels of residual sugar. It offers a beautifully fresh and finely aromatic nose of grapefruit, vineyard peach, tangerine, candied lime, lime tree, and mint. The wine is superbly balanced on the palate, where candied citrusy fruits interplay with fine orchard fruits. The finish has a lot of focus and precision with superb airiness. 2026-2042
