Maison Camille Giroud, founded in 1865, is a prominent name in Burgundy winemaking, celebrated for its unwavering dedication to quality and tradition. Originally a négociant, the maison specialized in sourcing exceptional musts and wines from the Côte d’Or, aging them to perfection in its cellars. In 1989, the founder’s grandsons shifted to in-house production from grapes grown by independent winegrowers or harvested from the estate’s vineyards.

In 2001, the maison was acquired by a consortium of American investors, including Ann Colgin of Colgin Cellars. This new ownership brought a fresh vision, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques. Under the leadership of talented winemaker David Croix, the maison embraced advancements such as wooden presses and open wooden fermentation vats, enriching the character of its wines. This evolution shifted the style from overly tannic and austere to a more fruit-forward and approachable profile, while still ensuring the wines' ability to age gracefully.

Since 2016, Carel Voorhuis has taken charge, focusing on wines that express the terroir and uphold the maison's esteemed reputation. 🍇He vinified the 2016 vintage alongside Croix to ensure stylistic continuity. He has preserved much of Croix's established approach while fine-tuning the winemaking process to yield smoother, more refined wines. A distinctive aspect of Carel's philosophy is his reduced use of sulfur during crushing, leading to aromatic and expressive wines. He also advocates for whole-bunch fermentation—having increased both the overall percentage and the number of cuvées utilizing this method—to enhance the elegance and complexity of the wines.

Maison Camille Giroud sources grapes from a reliable network of independent growers, particularly focusing on exceptional vineyards in southern Burgundy, with a small portion harvested directly from the estate’s own vineyards. Carel places great importance on these long-standing relationships, which are crucial for maintaining consistent quality.
