We’re excited to introduce you to Domaine Castagnier, a beloved label known for its captivating reds with exceptional concentration and structure. After visiting the estate in Burgundy last summer and meeting Jérôme Castagnier, we secured some of their outstanding wines for our agency portfolio.

Domaine Castagnier, located in Morey-St-Denis, Burgundy, has a rich history spanning five generations, producing high-quality Pinot Noir. Since 2005, Jérôme has enhanced the estate’s reputation through meticulous vineyard management and dedicated winemaking practices. Covering about 4 hectares, it boasts Village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru vineyards, including notable sites like Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint Denis.
The wines are celebrated for their vibrant fruit profiles, concentration, and balanced acidity🍷, appealing to both collectors and enthusiasts. Domaine Castagnier produces wines under its own label and a négoce label Jérôme Castagnier that focuses on white wines from sites like Puligny Montrachet and Corton Charlemagne.
🌱 Sustainability is key! The estate practices organic and biodynamic viticulture, promoting biodiversity and minimal intervention techniques to let the terroir shine through. In the cellar, Jérôme often uses whole bunches during fermentation—typically 40% in great years—to enhance the wine's character.
With a gravity-driven system for wine production and a vinification process that favors délestage (rack-and-return) over pigeage (punching down of the cap), the wines are well-balanced and expressive without being overly extracted, showcasing their true essence. The wines are aged in carefully selected barrels from Francois Frere and Chassagne, with a mix of light and medium toasted oak. Typically 40% of new oak and 60% of one year old oak are used from the Village level and up.

A fine deep crimson purple. There is a little extra depth of fruit on the nose for the 1er Cru. Very attractive, not too dense but with a lively fresh red fruit, fresh alpine strawberries with some orange zest, and good persistence. Drink from 2031-2037.

The darker side of crimson. There is a fine intensity of dark fruit too, ripe raspberry with a few notes of sun-dried cherries, a good structural balance between tannin and acidity. With a deep garnet hue, it offers enticing aromas of rose, cherry, and strawberry, enriched by subtle spice notes that add complexity. On the palate, the wine impresses with its roundness and finesse, harmoniously balanced by vibrant acidity and well-integrated tannins, resulting in a velvety texture and a lingering finish.
