Yann Durieux the rebel winemaker of Burgundy is a protégé of the late Henri-Frédéric Roch, the co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and owner of Domaine Prieuré-Roch. Having worked at Domaine Prieure Roch, and being put in charge of the Domaine’s Clos de Beze Grand Cru vineyard due to his exceptional understanding of biodynamic viticulture, Yann Durieux struck out to start his own Domaine, Recrue des Sens in 2010. The first three vintages were produced in Domaine Prieuré-Roch‘s cellars, but he has since moved out to a cellar in Villiers-la-Faye.

The vineyards are organic and biodynamic certified, with the vines trained high à la Domaine Leroy, and yields are exceptionally low. The wines are produced in a completely natural manner, along the lines of Domaine Prieuré-Roch, with whole bunch fermentation started by natural yeasts, no chaptalisation, and no sulphur or additives added. The resulting natural wines are intensively aromatic and perfumed, challenging the conventional understanding of Burgundy and opening up new possibilities. Not one to be constrained by custom, as demonstrated by the striking labels, Yann Durieux eschews traditional Burgundy classification, and the wines are marketed as Vin de France.
