Introducing Domaine de la Noblaie - Artisan Organic Wines from Chinon
We are thrilled to be introducing the wines of Domaine de la Noblaie to Hong Kong. Current proprietor Jérôme Billard is the third generation of this family estate, and he gained an expanded worldview by working around the world following his oenology studies in Dijon. He first worked for the Moueix family at Petrus in Pomerol and Dominus in Napa Valley, and followed that up with time at the Sacred Hill estate in New Zealand before returning to Domaine de la Noblaie in 2003. Since then, Jérôme and his wife Élodie have overseen a remarkable transition including an extensive study of the estate’s soils, the construction of a new winery in 2012, and conversion to organic farming and subsequent certification in 2014.
Jérôme and Élodie target to produce Chinon wines from ripe concentrated berries, with a style that is elegant, with fruit purity, and a structure for ageing, while avoiding the vegetal notes and rusticity that some wines from the region may show. These are good value versatile wines that are great with food. Increasingly seen as one of the rising stars in the appellation, the wines are approachable young but with the potential to evolve over time too. We have in stock one rose, one white, and two reds from the producer, and can offer a mixed case at an introductory price for those who wish to try the full range.

Domaine de la Noblaie Les Chiens Chiens 2018
HK$990 per case of 6 (normal price $1,170)
“Dark purple. Blackberry and cranberry aromas, plus a bit of pepper and a fresh green note. Lots of bright cranberry at first on the palate, then ripe blueberry and plum as it glides from midpalate and finishes long and chalky, with a hint of graphite. Attractive and drinkable. From 30-year-old sandy tuffeau soils, aged 12 months on lees in 500-liter barrels, then four months in tank.”

Domaine de la Noblaie Pierre de Tuf 2017
HK$1,230 per case of 6 (normal price $1,440)
“From Domaine de la Noblaie’s top parcel, planted in the 1940s. Aged 18 months in mix of new and old oak, clay and porcelain amphora. Pretty and expressive nose of violet, raspberry and black olive. Fruity and light on its feet, offering flavors of bright blackberry and blueberry, with attractive chalkiness at the edges and a friendly, juicy finish. Light, cool and elegant. This would easily and happily convert the Cabernet Franc skeptic in your life.”

Domaine de la Noblaie La Part des Anges 2017
HK$1,350 per case of 6 (normal price $1,590)
The estate has a rare substantial Chenin Blanc holding within the appellation, and this is their top white wine. Limited availability.
“Beautifully waxy on both on the nose and palate. Rich, full-bodied and great structure. Aromas and flavors of honey, apricot jam, and a touch of smoke throughout are balanced by green apple notes, a thrilling acidity, and a chalky underpinning that carries through the finish. From 50 year old vines, fermented in oak and aged 15 months in older 500-liter barrels, then 6 months in stainless steel, and a small amount in amphora.”
