Mature Wines Under HK$1,000 with 15+ Years Of Age
Aging wines takes years of patience, but we've done the waiting for you. We've curated a selection of some exceptional mature wines under HK$1,000 with 15+ years of age, ready to be enjoyed now from renowned regions like Bordeaux, Loire, Tuscany, and Australia.
From Bordeaux, you will find Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre. Crafted by the legendary Jean-Pierre Boyer, an expert in the traditional 19th century Bordeaux style, these wines from 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005 vintages provide you a glimpse into a bygone era of Bordeaux, a total opposite of the powerful, tannic Bordeaux of today. Expect light color, medium body, and delicate ripe fruit flavors with a silky, refined texture. A great Bordeaux experience it will be. We are also featuring Chateau de Sales - a classic, fruit-driven Pomerol from the extraordinary 1982 vintage, considered one of Bordeaux's best year.
Venturing to the Loire Valley, we've handpicked Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grezeaux (Vintage 1999 & 2000). Sourced from the estate's oldest vines, over 60 years old, planted near the Vienne River on sandy, gravelly soils, these concentrated, beautifully ripe Cabernet Franc wines are a true delight. Of course we have to mention the offerings of Domaine de la Noblaie. You will find their rare Chinon Chenin Blanc 1990, and their flagship Pierre de Tuf. Crafted from the estate’s top parcel on flint clay, Pierre de Tuf is the fruit of a long maceration in a vat carved in the tuffeau in the 15th century. The wine is rich but elegant, complex with a ripe tannic backbone, a cool dark blue and red fruit profile, and a long finish.
From Tuscany, we feature the Isole e Olena Cepparello 2006 - a pure Sangiovese "Super Tuscan" red crafted from the estate's finest fruit, displaying savory and floral characters.
And for our Australian wine lovers, we have a small selection of some of our very last bottles. Seize the bargain and get them while you still can!
Whether you're seeking to expand your collection or simply indulge in an enjoyable drinking experience, this selection is sure to delight.
1/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 1995 - Bt | NM91
HK$800 ▷ HK$680
The 1995 Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre has an exquisite, gentle, almost Burgundy-like bouquet with wonderful purity and delineation. This is a mixture of red and black fruit, developing pressed violet aromas that direct you back to Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured entry, a fine line of acidity, black fruit mixed with iodine and sea salt that leads to a linear, Pauillac-like finish. This is a very fine Margaux that is ageing gracefully at 23-years of age. Tasted at the Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre dinner.

2/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 1996 - Bt | RP94
HK$800 ▷ HK$680
The 1996 Bel Air Marquis d'Aligre is beginning to drink beautifully, unwinding in the glass with aromas of plums and cassis mingled with fresh tobacco, subtle spices and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with superb purity of fruit, fine concentration and melting tannins, it is entering what it sure to be a broad plateau of maturity.

3/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 1998 - Bt | JR16.5
HK$800 ▷ HK$680
Pale ruby. Sweet, mellow nose. Very gentle if slightly underpowered. No tannin to speak of and nicely round leathery notes – like a comfortable old pair of slippers.

4/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 1999 - Bt
HK$800 ▷ HK$680
The nose offers strong aromas of smokiness and hints of ripe red plums, while the palate is medium-light in body, with nuanced flavors of scorched earth, iron, black cherry, and leather, all framed by vibrant acidity and a nice lingering finish.
5/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 2000 - Bt | NM93
HK$900 ▷ HK$765
The 2000 Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre is like the 1986 on the nose: backward and broody, demanding coaxing from the glass. There are moss-like, undergrowth scents, a touch of morels emerging with time and then, after an hour, the nose blossoms and finds its groove. The fruit belatedly surfaces and you find yourself bewitched by the bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is not a complex millennial Margaux however there is a beguiling sense of effortless class and poise that plenty of its Margaux colleagues crave. Towards the finish there are subtle notes of tobacco and terracotta that lend another layer of complexity. I just love this wine – one of the best vintages from Jean-Pierre Boyer. Tasted at the Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre dinner.

6/ Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 2005 - Bt | NM92
HK$700 ▷ HK$595
The 2005 Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre has a strict, backward, tobacco and graphite-tinged bouquet with more black fruit than red, unlike the 2001. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, harmonious and crisp with a fine thread of acidity. There is a gentle build in the mouth, quite linear but delivering a very nuanced, lightly spiced, clove-infused finish. This Margaux is endowed with impressive density compared to other vintages tasted, the fruit veering towards black plums and a hint of balsamic. I admire the transparency of the wine, one that makes you feel as if you are peering directly into the vineyard. Tasted at the Bel-Air Marquis d’Aligre dinner.

7/ Chateau de Sales 1982 - Bt
HK$880 ▷ HK$748
It displays a complex nose of cherries, roasted coffee beans, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a smooth, silky texture and flavors of red plum and tart berry.
8/ Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grezeaux 1999 - Bt
HK$350 ▷ HK$320
This 1999 Les Grezeaux from Domaine Bernard Baudry shows a youthful ruby color. The aromatics are captivating, with notes of cranberry, raspberry, and musky woodsiness. On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, with an earthy, mushroom-like quality complementing the bright berry flavors. While the finish is a bit short, the tannins are well-integrated, making this an enjoyable, food-friendly Chinon.
9/ Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grezeaux 2000 - Bt
HK$350 ▷ HK$320
The 2000 Les Grezaux displays more prominent leafy, bell pepper-like aromas compared to previous vintage. On the palate, the wine is dominated by vegetal notes and hints of forest floor, though there also appears to be a bit more ripe black fruit - like blackberry or black plum - providing a subtle undercurrent of fruitiness.
10/ Domaine de la Noblaie Chinon Chenin Blanc 1990 - Bt | RP90
HK$520 ▷ HK$442
The intensely yellow-colored 1990 Chinon displays a matured and intense bouquet with some gasoline and machine oil aromas. Rich and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, potent and powerful Chenin Blanc that was fermented in stainless steel and bottled quite early at that time. The finish is a bit bitter but also rich and aromatic. This should be excellent with the right food. I tasted the wine from a bottle that was opened 10 hours before.

11/ Domaine de la Noblaie Pierre de Tuf 2004 - Bt
HK$300 ▷ HK$255
The 2004 Pierre de Tuf offers a bouquet of smoky herb notes and roasted vegetables, which continues on the palate.
12/ Domaine de la Noblaie Pierre de Tuf 2005 - Bt
HK$340 ▷ HK$290
An old favourite here, as I have been drinking this vintage from my own cellar for years. This particular bottle, which has of course rested at the domaine its entire life, feels very harmonious and complete on the nose, with a lightly smoked character nuanced with black bean, black truffle, dried blackcurrant, green peppercorn and juniper berry. The palate begins in a convincing and harmonious fashion, with a fine blanket of fruit draped over a grip of tightly packed tannins, firm and correct, with a finish richly wrapped up in more tannin. It feels dry, powdery, bright and correct, with a peppery energy and great length. The very best of old-school Chinon here, although richly extracted;drink now if you are tired of waiting, but those tannins mean really this will age for another ten or twenty years. The alcohol is 13% on the label.

13/ Domaine de la Noblaie Pierre de Tuf 2008 - Bt
HK$300 ▷ HK$255
Really evolving aromatics here, deliciously scented with dried raspberry and tobacco, as well as some greener notes of green peppercorn and green olive. This vintage is showing the more herbaceous side of Cabernet Franc. The palate has some elegance at the start, with a little polish to it, and there are some appealing tobacco and sous bois notes I like. The structure, however, is less accomplished than some other vintages, with a slightly coarser tannic backbone evident here, and a firm bite of acidity. The finish feels rather austere. It has potential yet, but it needs more time.

14/ Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT 2006 - Bt | AG96
HK$1,000 ▷ HK$850
The 2006 Cepparello is a super classic wine. It brings together the best elements of the house style in its breathtaking aromatics, delineated fruit and striking overall balance. All of the elements are in the right place for the 2006 to develop into a spectacular wine. The 2006 stands apart for its nuance, depth and overall detail. Juicy red cherries, raspberries, rose petals and licorice build to the huge, dramatic finish. The 2006 is one of the all-time great Cepparellos. It bears more than a passing resemblance to the stunning 1988. The 2006 has blossomed beautifully in bottle over the last few years, and it is now clear I underestimated its potential. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036.

15/ Glaetzer 'Amon-Ra' Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2006 - Bt | RP94
HK$850 ▷ HK$820
Deep garnet, the 2006 Amon-Ra opens with a really earthy, meaty and gamey nose scented of slightly burnt toast, tar, licorice and after a few minutes a little menthol. Full and rich, the palate has dried mulberries and spice flavors alongside very crisp acid, medium levels of chewy tannins before finishing long. Drink it now until 2020+.

16/ Cullen Diana Madeline, Margaret River 2003 - Bt | VNS93
HK$1,080 ▷ HK$990
(a blend of 72% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 4% each petit verdot and malbec) Deep, bright ruby. Intensely aromatic nose exudes wild strawberry, bitter cherry, rose and patchouli oil, cigarbox, black pepper and peat. Concentrated and quite densely packed, displaying a collection of red fruit flavors, especially ripe redcurrant, along with vanilla, cinnamon and licorice candy. Manages the neat trick of being intense yet delicate, and dense and very ripe but also suave and lively. The finish is bright, the tannins silky and fine-grained. Old Bridge Cellars,Napa CA

17/ Mollydooker Enchanted Path Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon, McLaren Vale 2007 - Bt | RP95+
HK$950 ▷ HK$900
The 2007 Enchanted Path, a blend of 67% Shiraz and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, is aged in mostly American oak, 70% new. Purple/black colored, it has a brooding bouquet of spice box, toasty oak, mineral, espresso, black currant, and blueberry. Structured and powerful on the palate, this dense, rich effort requires 5 to 7 years of additional cellaring and will offer prime drinking from 2014 to 2028.
Mollydooker is the label of the renowned winemaking team of Sparky and Sarah Marquis. This is their third vintage, one seriously affected by the drought conditions in Barossa and McLaren Vale. Their overall production was down by 50% in 2007. Mollydooker is divided into four tiers beginning with the Lefty Series, line-priced at $25. Next up the ladder is the Party Series priced at $55, followed by two wines comprising the Love Series priced at $80. At the top of the pyramid is one wine, The Velvet Glove, priced at $185.
